Safeguarding and Protecting Children & Vulnerable Adults

Policy of the Dominican Friars

We, the Dominicans of the Irish Province, together with staff and volunteers, will do all in our power to provide a safe and supportive environment for children and young people with whom we interact.

Over recent years the whole area of safeguarding has developed significantly. Our Safeguarding Office, in line with recommendations made by the National Board for Safeguarding Children in the Catholic Church in Ireland, (NBSCCCI) and in accordance with legislative changes, continues to ensure our safeguarding procedures are updated and all statutory reporting requirements are met.

Pope Francis, in a recent talk reminded us of how “young people can offer the Church the beauty of youth by renewing her ability to rejoice with new beginnings” (Christus Vivit, 37). So, it is important, with the support of their parents/carers, we continue to engage with children and young people in our varied Dominican ministries.

Youth are the hope of the Church. As Dominicans, true to the vision of St. Dominic, we believe, with God’s grace, together we can build a future, in a safer way.

Fr. John Harris, O.P. (Prior Provincial, Dominican Province of Ireland).
